Constantines Offer Up New EP, Commence Rolling Tundra Revue Tour

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Mar 17, 2009

As Constantines prepare to kick off their Rolling Tundra Revue tour this week with the Weakerthans, the Torontonian rock outfit have announced the release of a new companion EP.

Dubbed Too Slow for Love, the seven-track offering features alternate, "stripped-down" versions of several tracks from the band's latest full-length, Kensington Heights, as well as some old favourites like Shine a Light's "Young Lions" and Tournament of Hearts' "Conductor." Starting today (March 17), the EP will come free when you buy the Kensington Heights album digitally and as a special $5.99 bundle over at Arts & Craft's web shop and iTunes.

Along with the new release news, both Constantines and the Weakerthans have also announced the "Rock, Don't Drive!" initiative, a joint effort designed to help reduce the environmental impacts of their upcoming tour. The bands are encouraging concertgoers to carpool, use public transit or "human power" to get to the shows, and if fans show the merch table their bike helmet, bus pass or carpool gang, they'll get a special not-for-sale button as a bit of thanks.

"Touring from one end of the country to the other is no small feat," explain the Weakerthans in a statement. "[We] are well aware of the environmental impact of things like tour buses, which burn fuel, and audio and lighting systems, which draw electricity.

"The Rolling Tundra Revue is attempting to control some of the environmental impact that this tour will have, and we've solicited advice from across Canada about how to mitigate some of these effects. As the tour progresses, we'll be letting people know how it's going. We don't for a second think that we're alleviating all of the environmental impact of our tour, but we're hoping we can make some change and encourage others to do the same."
