Who knew that Coldplay were such jokers? The British blokes are usually known for their earnest arena anthems, but following their goofy Game of Thrones musical, they've now issued a similarly silly musical send-off to departing BBC Radio 1 host Fearne Cotton. The song's title? "Gone but Not F. Cotton."
The song is a comically wistful piano ballad about how sad Coldplay are that Cotton is leaving, and frontman Chris Martin croons, "Thanks for introducing us to Lana Del Rey," and, "Thanks for all the mornings in the lounge, we'd arrive / And sweetly you would tell us, 'No swearing, we're live.'" There are some grandiose choral vocals during a hook that sounds a bit like a rehash of Coldplay's "Green Eyes." In other words, it's a joke, but a sweet one that fans of the group's early work might sincerely enjoy.
