Cold Water Announce Debut LP, Share Full Stream

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 20, 2015

Following last year's split with Eamon McGrath, raw and rootsy Calgary band Cold Water are preparing to release their debut album. This self-titled effort will be released on iTunes on April 17 and on vinyl on May 16 through Revolution Winter; in the meantime, it's available to stream in full.

The nine-track album was recorded at Calgary's Box Studio with a six-piece lineup fronted by Kevin Stebner (of Stalwart Sons).

The results channel what a press release calls "a combination of the down-trodden writing of classic folk artists like Anne Briggs or Karen Dalton paired with the iconoclast of full-blast volume and feeling from bands like Constantines." It's a sound the band themselves dub "full-stack folk."

The band will celebrate the vinyl release on May 16 with a "Cold Water Revue" gig at Calgary's National Music Centre. This night will feature cover tunes, reworked renditions of LP tracks, and guest appearances from various musical allies.

In the meantime, vinyl copies of the album can be ordered here; pre-orders come with a cassette containing a studio-recorded bonus track and some demos. The full album is streaming below and it can be purchased digitally from Bandcamp.
