The voice of God is about to be heard on fresh-pressed vinyl once again, with news that iconic '80s dream pop trio Cocteau Twins are having a pair of platters reissued via 4AD. A press release from the label explains that new vinyl versions of the outfit's 1988 offering Blue Bell Knoll and 1990's Heaven or Las Vegas will be out on July 14.
The records are both being served up on heavyweight black vinyl, with the tracks having been reworked from "brand new HD 96/24 masters." While the albums will be preserved in their original tracklistings, it should be noted that this is the first time either record has received a vinyl pressing since its initial release. The label did, however, deliver remastered editions of the sets on CD in 2003.
Blue Bell Knoll was the first of the band's albums to be recorded at members Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde's September Sound studio in London, which a press release explains afforded the gauzy project time to work on their own schedule. This is said to have resulted in "a new pop sensibility to their sound, expressed through shorter, 'hookier' songs with occasionally intelligible lyrics" from Elizabeth Fraser. Follow-up LP Heaven or Las Vegas was the band's last record for 4AD before making the hop to major label Fontana/Capitol and is noted for being their most commercially successful record, having hit No. 7 on the UK charts upon its release. 4AD founder Ivo Watts-Russell revealed in last year's Facing the Other Way book that Heaven or Las Vegas is his all-time favourite release on the label, describing it as "the perfect record."
