Cobra Starship

While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets

BY Ariana RockPublished Feb 16, 2007

A side project for Gabe Saporta, the lead singer/bassist of Midtown, Cobra Starship is a throwback to the ’80s resurgence that is still sweeping through music. Employing the use of keyboards, synthesised beats, and whiny cheesy vocals (and even pulling a little Ricky Martinez with some Spanish lyrics thrown in there for culture and class), this album is stretching out to reveal that it’s more industry hype than quality tunes. Although making it to the soundtrack of the Snakes On a Plane movie with the song "Bring It,” the elements of this song, namely catchy hooks, and a more diverse sound brought on by a power team of members from Gym Class Heroes, the Academy Is... and the Sounds, unfortunately do not translate over to their other songs. Instead it relies on monotony and fast paces to flimsily hook you in. I’m sure as hell not hooked.
