The Clutters

Don't Believe a Word

BY Rob NayPublished Jun 20, 2007

The Clutters’ second full-length provides a range of songs that manage to deftly blend together blasts of new wave pop with amphetamine-laced blues rock. With the organ turned up high in the mix, the Nashville-based group’s sound veers from upbeat, melodic tunes such as "Aww, C’mon” and "Radio” to the floor-stomping menace of "Fire” and "Temperature.” Don’t Believe A Word does a solid job of including a variety of musical influences without ever seeming fragmented. Instead, the record is held together by high quality, catchy songs that sew together a wide variety of influences to fashion a consistently tuneful record. On Don’t Believe A Word, the Clutters convey their well-honed songwriting skills and a keen ability to create sharp hooks.
