Published Oct 30, 2014Prolific film score composer Cliff Martinez — who, to answer a recent commenter's question, is indeed a former member of Red Hot Chili Peppers — has taken on a new project. Excitingly, this will see him scoring the new film by True Detective director Cary Fukunaga. That's hardly all Martinez has on his plate, though, as he also has a videogame soundtrack and another Steven Soderbergh collaboration on the way.
In an interview with Celluloid Tunes [via Film Music Reporter], Martinez revealed that he is writing the music for Beasts of No Nation, which features Fukunaga as screenwriter and director. Starring Idris Elba, Abraham Attah and Opeyemi Fagbohungbe, it's based on a 2005 novel by Uzodinma Iweala and concerns a young boy who joins a group of soldiers in a war-torn West African nation.
The film is in post-production and expected out next year through Focus Features.
In other news, Martinez has composed the music for the upcoming shooter game Far Cry 4, which is set to be released on November 18 on various platforms. The official soundtrack is coming out on December 2 through Invada/Redeye, and an Amazon listing notes that's it's a double-CD.
He's also reportedly expected to return for the second season of Soderbergh's The Knick. Martinez scored the first season of the Cinemax period drama, which stars Clive Owen and premiered this year. As previously reported, the vinyl pressing of the first season's soundtrack is due out December 23 through Milan Records.
Additionally, TV viewers may have noticed some recent Lincoln car commercials starring Matthew McConaughey. Those were scored by Martinez as well. Watch a commercial below.
