Cigarettes After Sex Take the Edge Off with Double Single "Bubblegum" / "Stop Waiting"

It's the cult faves' first new music of 2023

Cigarettes After Sex are one of the few bands that seem to have seamlessly transitioned from being kinda-big in the Tumblr era to being bonkers-famous in the TikTok age. Their song "K." blew up on the latter platform as the soundtrack to a video trend where people messily smudge lipstick on themselves before panning the camera to show someone — their partner, their pet, whatever — covered in kisses.

The self-stylized "subterranean dream pop" project led by Greg Gonzalez are back today with the makings of another horny meme with a double single, "Bubblegum" / "Stop Waiting." It marks Cigarettes After Sex's first new music since 2022's "Pistol" and a small string of other singles following their 2019 sophomore LP, Cry.

Both new tracks fit nicely into the band's ambient, woozy wheelhouse. Despite its title, "Bubblegum" is more brooding with an ambling tempo, while "Stop Waiting" floats saccharinely through musings about a woman putting sunscreen on her dress.
