Aspiring remixers take note: moody Portland unit Chromatics have just offered up a free drumless version of their recent Kill for Love LP for you to fudge with. You can grab the 11-song version of the album over here.
Band mastermind Johnny Jewel spoke with Pitchfork about the project, noting that certain songs off the 17-song, 90-minute original were drumless to begin with, so that explains the disparity between the two tracklists.
"It's all the pop songs without drums," he said. "I think people will have a lot of fun with it because everyone keeps remixing 'Birds of Paradise' because there were no drums on it."
The possibility of even more alternate editions of the LP exist, as Jewel noted he also prepped an instrumental version for reference.
"I always master multiple versions in case I want to collage or edit them later. I was really liking the way the vocal mixes sounded with no drums and I think that the drums on the album are so heavy, that it's interesting to hear the record as this almost empty, almost a cappella kind of thing."
Chromatics will also be heading out to tour Mexico, Europe and the U.S. this spring/summer, though no Canadian dates have been scheduled. Regardless, you can see those dates down below.
