Christina Rosenvinge

Frozen Pool

BY Noel DixPublished Dec 1, 2000

After sessions took place for previous albums at Sonic Youth's Manhattan studios, Christina Rosenvinge borrowed SY's Lee Ranaldo to splatter vocals and guitar on Frozen Pool. This is a very simplistic yet effective record with very strong similarities to bands such as Ivy and Mazzy Star. Rosenvinge has an exceptionally beautiful voice - add to that clean guitars, brushed drums and strong songwriting, and the result is purely exquisite. Throughout the record, her inflection, mixed with Ranaldo's backing vocals, tends to drift along the lazy tracks with such elegance. There truly are no weak spots on Frozen Pool, just a very angelic presentation.
