Christina Martin

I Can Too

BY Rachel SandersPublished Oct 18, 2010

Christina Martin comes flying out of the gates on her third album, I Can Too. The opening track's driving rhythms herald a bolder approach to roots rock than we've seen from her before. The Halifax, NS songwriter follows up her ECMA-winning 2008 sophomore release, Two Hearts, with an album that rocks harder without sacrificing sincerity. Even when she reverts to the more leisurely numbers, the likes of which graced Two Hearts and her 2002 debut, Pretty Things, the arrangements often build into booming, instrument-heavy affairs and her girlish voice is inflected with a note of arch dignity. Martin has teamed up once again with Cuff the Duke's Dale Murray to produce I Can Too, and the album boasts guest appearances from Cuff the Duke's Wayne Petti and Blue Rodeo's Greg Keelor. Martin has leapt into a new realm, and the polish and presence she displays are sure to attract appreciative audiences countrywide.
