New Orleans-based genre-jumping trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah made Exclaim!'s Top 10 Improv and Avant-Garde Albums of 2017 for The Centennial Trilogy, but he isn't wrapping up his year just yet.

Scott has unveiled a new cut called "Freedom Is a Word," roping in the talents of Vic Mensa, as well as the Refined Players featuring Joe Dyson, Weedie Braimah, Joe Harley, Elena Pinderhughes and Derrick Hodge.

The collaboration came about through the ongoing Refined Players documentary series by Billboard and 1800 Tequila, and the final product has just arrived.

"Musically, it's instinctual for me to pull in sonic influences from all over the world," Scott said in a statement. "As a band leader and collaborator, it's been an incredible journey to pull together individual talents from all over the country for the Refined Players project. Independently, each of us brings our own raw sound and creative energy into the mix. The final product is a true testament of hard work, collaboration and sonic diversity."
