Chris Cornell Announces Solo Acoustic "Songbook" Tour

Despite announcing the upcoming live disc Live on I5, grunge dudes Soundgarden haven't exactly been hitting concert stages since reforming last year. Yeah, they played Lollapalooza and a secret show at Seattle's Showbox Theatre, but shouldn't they be hitting venues all over the place by now? While we're still hoping the outfit sludges their way back onto the concert circuit, there is some consolation in lead singer Chris Cornell taking off on a tour of his own. To be honest, though, his upcoming solo acoustic "Songbook" tour sounds a little weird.

A post on Cornell's website explains that the artist will take to halls and auditoriums across North America to perform unplugged versions of the songs that make up his enormous back catalogue. Assumedly, this means that in addition to Soundgarden tracks he will be trotting out solo material and the occasional number he penned with bro-rock groaners Audioslave as well. Think of that what you will.

The statement says that Cornell tried a similar-styled show in Los Angeles in December 2009, which sold out and apparently went spectacularly enough for the singer to consider booking a whole "Songbook" tour. Cornell's trip runs through April and May, with several Canadian stops in such cities as Toronto, Edmonton and Victoria.

If Soundgarden aren't hitting the road any time soon, this is about as close a chance to hearing their material live in your town anytime soon. Here's hoping Cornell opts out of playing his James Bond song ("You Know My Name") in favour of a tender take on Soundgarden's "Birth Ritual."
