COMICS

Flying in the face of purists who take the story arc of their favourite characters as gospel, Marvel has relaunched their What If? series of comic books, featuring fantasy team-ups, alternate endings and outlandish role-reversals. In the hands of some of its most talented writers and artists, the fantasy series imagines radical reinterpretations of well-known events. One "what if” imagines that Peter Parker’s Aunt May died instead of Uncle Ben, with drastically dark consequences for Spider-Man; another puts General Ross in the green skin of the Hulk instead of Bruce Banner, while Daredevil and Fantastic Four also get an overhaul. From an industry that constantly restarts storylines from the beginning, it’s nice to have a different ending for a change.
