Cheap Date

'Tiny Voices' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 24, 2015

Oshawa, ON pop punk unit Cheap Date are set to unleash their debut EP Tiny Voices next week, but you can stream it right here at Exclaim! before it officially drops.

The four-song offering delivers upbeat, fast-paced, pop-tinged punk rock that will, according to the band, "take you back to your high school days." It was produced by Derek Hoffman (Ritual, Liferuiner, Prophets) at Fox Sounds, while Noah Mintz (Broken Social Scene, Billy Talent, the Sheepdogs) mastered the tracks at Laquer Channel.

From the buoyant, riff-laden pop of opener "Superheroes Have Bad Days Too," in which the band vow to not take life so seriously, to the darker-themed and heavier-sounding "Panic Attack" and "Self Medicated," and finally to the distorted guitars and chipper melodies of closer "Later Days," Cheap Date show off a range of sound in the short collection of songs.

They'll be bringing those sounds live to the stage for an EP release show on March 27 at Smiling Buddha in Toronto. The album will be available digitally as of March 31, and you can grab physical copies at the band's upcoming shows.

For now, though, skip the week-long wait and give Tiny Voices a spin in the player below.
