Looking to incite a bit of indie rock nostalgia, long-gone '90s unit Chavez have announced their first record of new material since 1996's Ride the Fader. Come January 13, the band will release a new EP called Cockfighters via Matador.
Considering this is indeed an EP, the release is a short one, consisting of only three tracks. To give you a taste, though, Chavez have shared the new song "The Bully Boys," which you'll find at the bottom of the page.
While Ride the Fader marks Chavez's last proper album, they did release the Better Days Will Haunt You comp in 2006. Also, in 2015, they reissued both Ride the Fader and their debut LP Gone Glimmering.
Chavez also played reunion shows in more recent years, and their members have remained active. The group's Matt Sweeney released an album with the Soldiers of Fortune last year, as well as has done work with Bonnie "Prince" Billy and joined Billy Corgan's Zwan supergroup back in the early 2000s. Chavez's Clay Tarver also began work as a screenwriter, working on the HBO series Silicon Valley.
