Published Feb 05, 2009For a guy who hates touring, Chad VanGaalen sure takes a lot of road trips. Not only did he spend a chunk of last year touring in support of the highly awesome Soft Airplane but now he's begun filling his 2009 daytimer with tour dates as well.
Come late February, the surrealistic Calgary songsmith has announced he will play a handful of Canada-friendly dates, paying visits to Vancouver, Toronto and Victoria, as well a few select U.S. cities. As usual, VanGaalen's lo-fi pop proteges Women will be along for much of the trip and likely be breaking out a bunch of new material, as they prepare to record their self-titled debut's follow-up.
And while it's good to see VanGaalen getting out for some fresh air these days, there's still no sign of any of his promised new releases. As previously reported, VanGaalen told Exclaim! last year that he had begun working on an electronic-only project dubbed Black Mold and that we could expect an album sometime in the near future. He also said that his label, Flemish Eye, planned to release an entire album of Soft Airplane outtakes, as well as a new DVD of his various animation work and short films. So far, no details on any of these projects have been announced.
In the meantime, you'll just have to be content with VanGaalen's tour dates:
