Chad VanGaalen

Even though he played smack in the middle of Thursday night's show, Calgary's Chad VanGaalen was clearly the headliner for most in attendance. But VanGaalen played down his growing stature, casting himself as a one of many top draws for the night. Although he's publicly stated he's more interested in writing and recording than touring, he wore a giant grin for most of his set, which included a generous helping of tunes from his latest record, Soft Airplane. But like label-mates Women, VanGaalen's live show lacked energy. Perhaps he's better suited to crafting headphone masterpieces.
