CFCF

"Invitation to Love"

BY Cam LindsayPublished Oct 7, 2008

I noticed over at one of my favourite MP3 blogs, Gorilla vs Bear, that Montreal newcomer CFCF has been rewarded the second release on Patrik North's burgeoning Acephale label.

Known as Mike Silver when he isn't biting the name of his local CTV channel, as CFCF, this newcomer won a remix contest for his version of Crystal Castles' "Air Wars" and, according to his MySpace page, has gone on to "legitimately" remix the likes of Apache Beat, Health, the Teenagers, Heartsrevolution, Sally Shapiro and "illegitimately" take on Cassie, the Jets and Midnight Star.

Following up Salem's haunting Yes I Smoke Crack EP, which sold out just as it was released, CFCF drops a double A-side that includes a song called "You Hear Colours" and this edited version of the Alan Parsons Project's chiller "Voyager."

Removing the unnecessary bits from the Parsons original, Silver grabs the main guitar riff, the steady pulse and its airy synths and goes to work. He beefs up the beat with a disco strut, air drums and some handclaps, tickles the keys with some pizazz and converts it into a club track that not only shows another side to his expanding range but also deserves its own illegitimate remixes.

For more CFCF "originals," check out this post over at Discodust — "The Explorers" is a real corker.
