A Certain Ratio

"Teri"

I'm not sure why it hasn't really been news but A Certain Ratio released a brand new studio album at the tail end of 2008. This calls for a celebration, doesn't it? WTF? These guys wrote "Shack Up" and "Do the Du"! Mind Made Up is the band's first album since 1997 and yeah, it's not exactly Graveyard And The Ballroom but isn't that just expected? Unfortunately, there isn't much to tell you about it, seeing as the band's official site and official MySpace page don't acknowledge its existence. Even the label that released it, Le Maquis, has little info other than that it "offers a mixture of pop and funk supported by the groovy and warm-hearted rhythmics of the drummer and the almost epileptic nervous guitar of Martin Moscrop. 12 funk songs promised to a bright future."

That said, if you're into ACR's later funk-heavy material, Mind Made Up shouldn't be a disappointment, especially considering former Primal Scream singer Denise Johnson takes part in bringing the funk punk. One song does strike me though. Called "Teri," it find ACR taking it down a few notches with a rather subdued slowburner that sounds more like the Notwist than anything (minus the glitches). Of course, it's nothing at all like any other song on the record, which is likely why it stood out in the bunch.
