CBC Radio 2 to Immortalize Canada's Landmarks with the Great Canadian Song Quest

"Which Canadian place should get its own song and who should write it? You decide." That's the tagline for a contest being launched by CBC Radio 2, asking music fans to pick their favourite Canadian location for its Great Canadian Song Quest.

Beginning September 28 and ending October 9, Canadians can vote for their favourite location or landmark via Facebook, Twitter, by posting on their blogs, or by submitting photos or video entries. Then, starting October 12, they can pick from a shortlist of Great White North locales, as well as 13 bands that should write 13 corresponding songs for a CBC Radio 2 "cross-country playlist."

"What better way to share our collective passion for Canadian music than to hear directly from Canadian communities on what places and artists mean most to them?" Mark Steinmetz, director of programming for CBC Radio, said in a statement. "The Great Canadian Song Quest is an incredible way to discover and bring together the places, artists and music that make the Canadian landscape unique."

The 13 bands who will write the songs for the playlist will be announced on October 26, and the 13 locations as well as the playlist will be announced on November 23.

Our vote? Well, pretty much any location will do, as long as Nomeansno or D.O.A. write the song.
