Hordes To Abolish The Divine

BY Chris GramlichPublished May 1, 2000

The oft-overused analogy of a musical act being the equivalent of a truck, train, or some other heavy piece of machinery and running over the listener may have become yet another music critic cliché, but in the case of Cattlepress it's more than justified. Except Cattlepress will then proceed to slowly back up over the twitching carcass and repeat the process as many times as necessary. They explore many different aspects of the extreme spectrum on Hordes, and elements of Neurosis, Candiria, Unsane and sludge-era Melvins are tempered with the snippets of death and grind, and distorted to a glorious level of abuse. While the sonic quality of Hordes... stands up to the auditory level of excellence that Hydra Head are known for releasing, the visual aspects of Hordes... are sorely lacking, looking pieced together. Still, the malignant musical abuse contained here should more than compensate.
