Cat Power to Drop New Single on Christmas Eve

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 16, 2011

It's been a couple of months since Cat Power last gave us an update about her long-awaited forthcoming LP, which will be her first collection of original tunes since 2006's The Greatest (we're not counting the covers-heavy Jukebox from 2008). The album still isn't quite done, but that isn't stopping songwriter Chan Marshall from rolling out a new song in time for Christmas

In an update posted last night (December 15) on Twitter, she wrote, "Almost done with album. In 9 days will have a song available for holiday charity download." She subsequently added that there will be an accompanying video, and that buyers will be offered a selection of charities to donate to.

If the single arrives on schedule, that means that it will be available as of Christmas Eve (December 24).

There's no word as to whether the song will be a cut from the new album, or if it will be a B-side or holiday-themed track. Marshall previously promised that her new material would be more stripped down than some of her recent full-band work. She has been playing new songs live.
