Cat Power Contemplating Cancelling European Tour over Health and Financial Problems

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Oct 31, 2012

Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) may cut the promotional cycle behind her Sun LP a little shorter than her fans around the globe had hoped. While there is still a handful of dates to get through in North America, including a Friday (November 2) stop at Vancouver's Vogue Theatre, a message from Marshall calls into question whether she can afford to make her way to Europe, financially or health-wise.

The message, which Marshall posted on Instagram, pointed to the possibility of bankruptcy, as well as her struggle with the tissue disorder angioedema as reasons for not crossing the pond. As it stands, the trip, which is supposed to start in Amsterdam on November 26, has yet to be annulled.

The message reads:

I may have to cancel my European tour due to bankruptcy and my health struggle with angioedema. I have not thrown in any towel, I am trying to figure out what best I can do. Heart broken. Worked so hard. Got sick day after Sun came out and been struggling to keep all points of me in equilibrium: mind, spirit, body healthy, centered and grounded. I am doing the best I can. I fucking love this planet. I refuse to give up. Though I may need to restrategize for my security and health.

UPDATE: Cat Power has tweeted that the Euro trek is a go, writing, "EUROPEAN TOUR IS ON. WITHOUT STAGE PRESENTATION. HARD MONEY WASTED. #GOODBYE #GORILLA"

You can check the rest of Cat Power's West Coast dates down below and see the potentially in-jeopardy Euro tour schedule here. Best wishes go out to Marshall, and hopefully these aren't the last Cat Power shows for the foreseeable future.
