On top of her heart-stirring originals, Cat Power (a.k.a. Chan Marshall) has put her stamp on tracks from Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones and more over the years. Just in time for the holidays, the beloved singer-songwriter has now crafted a cover of Judy Garland's classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
The minimalist piano rendition premiered in a new tear-jerking Apple commercial manipulating our emotions with multiple shots of family-based bonding (cookie making, tree trimming, snow fights, et al.), seemingly enjoyed by all of the "Harris" clan save one kid obsessed with his iPhone. As Marshall melts us with her hot toddy-warm whisper, a twist is delivered, leading us to think that new media might not be that much of a home-wrecker after all.
While the commercial proper features an excerpt of the Christmas cover, there is also an extended video featuring more jolly shots of the family and Cat Power's version of the traditional number in full. You'll find both versions down below.
