Cass McCombs Reveals 'Mangy Love' Album

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 24, 2016

After offering up some Skifflin' music earlier this year with the Skiffle Players, elastic pop and folk auteur Cass McCombs has announced his next solo album. Titled Mangy Love, the record arrives August 26 through Anti-.

A press release explains that McCombs' latest offering was mostly written during "a bitter New York City winter and while travelling in Ireland," and finds him honing his sociopolitical wit. The collection was cut with producers Rob Schnapf and Dan Horne, with the 12-song set apparently taking influence from Philly soul and California psych.

Vocally, McCombs is said to experiment with hip-hop and beat poetry by "employing a speech-style and clever fast-paced wordplay."

McCombs' eighth studio full-length as a solo artist also finds him joined by a few guests. Folk artist Angel Olsen appears on the record's "Opposite House," while singer-songwriter Blake Mills also contributes to Mangy Love.

Below, you'll find a stream of the chilled-out, Olsen-assisted "Opposite House." There, you'll also find McCombs' tour schedule. A North American leg of dates in the fall has him hitting Toronto and Montreal in October.
