Casket Lottery

Smoke and Mirrors

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Jun 1, 2004

A fitting eulogy for a band who have offered up some of the most musically challenging melodic emocore of the last half a decade, Smoke and Mirrors presents the band’s angular, emotional rock at its best. Representing both their driving and the pleading side, the four songs contained on this EP, billed as likely the band’s final release, are as good as anything in their impressive discography. "Come Sweet Revenge” is a to-the-tilt rock song, an unrelenting two-and-a-half minutes of powerful guitars and heartfelt vocals. The title track, which closes off the EP, is vintage Casket Lottery. Tight rhythmically and heavy emotionally, Smoke and Mirrors is a fine send off for a fine band.
