Caroline

Murmurs Mixes

Murmurs Mixes is an iTunes exclusive remix album and companion piece to Caroline's 2006 release, Murmurs. Producers such as Lullatone, Brightest Feathers, Logreybeam, Repose, Wake and Eli Walks mine the melancholy of Caroline's fragile pipes for more easy to digest ambi-pop. Seemingly tailor-made for the mostly crystalline electro ballads, whether innocent and off-key in Lullatone's "Bicycle" or slightly creepy between synth riffs in "EveryLittleThing," Caroline's feather-light vocals remain front and centre. Benefiting from some added production meat inherent to remixes and finding some force within the occasional ping-pong rhythms or drum rolls and snares, her voice still makes for an overall soothing experience. This is also partly due to Murmurs Mixes's dense, ambient soundscape, as well as the clever restraint in instrumentation. The producers remember why they are there and focus on leaving no more than an ultra-lush cushion for Caroline's timid voice to soar over.
