Cardiac Arrest

Vortex of Violence

BY Denise FalzonPublished May 22, 2012

Chicago, IL brutal death metallers Cardiac Arrest return with Vortex of Violence, their follow-up to 2010's excellent Haven For The Insane. The new record is the band's fourth full-length since forming in 1997 and is a natural progression from Haven For The Insane, showcasing the group's quality musicianship and proficient songwriting skills. The aptly titled Vortex of Violence features bone-crushing aggression, with hammering blast beats, frenzied guitar riffs and guttural vocals that spew horrific, gory lyrics, courtesy of frontman Adam Scott. Cardiac Arrest's second release for Ibex Moon, Vortex of Violence is relentlessly vicious throughout, particularly "To Their Graves" and "Ritual Plague." The record is also consistently intense, yet keeps the listener reeled in, with tracks that are never repetitive and contain a variety of rhythms and structures. This is a difficult feat for death metal acts these days.
