Published Jan 16, 2012Elder statesmen of gore/death metal Cannibal Corpse are back and ready to maim again with their next LP, and twelfth overall, Torture. The follow-up to 2009's Evisceration Plague, which Exclaim! lauded for surpassing expectations via "the most threatening blast-beats imaginable," arrives March 13 through Metal Blade.
As explained in a press release, the 12-song LP was tracked by Hate Eternal's Erik Rutan at both his Mana Recording Studio in St. Petersburg, FL, as well as Tornillo, TX's Sonic Ranch. As can be expected, the group continue to merge high-speed destruction with hyper-violent imagery, with controversially titled cuts including "As Deep As the Knife Will Go," "Followed Home Then Killed," and "The Strangulation Chair." You can check out first single and aptly named "Demented Aggression" down below.
Sonically, Cannibal Corpse consider the outing a return to the "frenzied attack" of early efforts like 1991's Butchered at Birth and Tomb of the Mutilated, adding that Torture is a high watermark for the Corpse.
"We're extremely happy with how Torture turned out. Erik Rutan did an amazing job with the production, and the songwriting and performances may be our strongest yet," bassist Alex Webster offered in a statement. "We can't wait until our fans get to hear the whole thing!"
