Cannabis Corpse

Tube of the Resinated

At first glance, Cannabis Corpse are an obvious spin on Cannibal Corpse, and their sophomore album, Tube of the Resinated, is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Tampa troop’s breakthrough release, Tomb of the Mutilated. But this Richmond, VA band absolutely worship Chris Barnes-era Cannibal, so Resinated stands as a sticky bud homage to their death metal masters. Every song title is a mini-tribute, like the Carcass-esque "Gallery of Stupid High” (Cannibal’s "Gallery of Suicide”) and "Experiment in Horticulture” ("An Experiment in Homicide”). "Mummified in Bongwater” and "Disposal of the Baggy” are densely packed with sick riffs and double-kick drum workouts, yet "Every Bud Smoken” and "Addicted to Hash in a Tin” include black metal tones and melodic/prog riffs, respectively. "Fucked With Northern Lights” even throws in a movie sample and the album’s cover art depicts a reversal of fate in the war between humans and leafy green. Sure to make all headbangers crave tortilla chips and snack cakes, Cannabis Corpse are quickly becoming a blunt force in technical death metal.
