Canada Takes Another Stab at Breaking the World Record for Most Guitarists Playing at Once

BY Greg PrattPublished Mar 22, 2010

As previously reported, Canada attempted to gather a record-setting amount of guitarists playing simultaneously, when last summer a mere 1,623 six-stringers convened in Toronto to play Neil Young's "Helpless." They fell a bit short of that particular pinnacle, which is 1,802 guitarists playing at the same time (Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" in the apparently very rocking Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany). Well, we're taking another shot at the Guinness record.

It's not totally out of the question to think it was the mopey nature of "Helpless" that contributed to the "small" turnout last time, so the organizers this time around chose a much more energetic tune: Bachman Turner Overdrive's Canuck classic "Takin' Care of Business", a song which, we must admit, would sound totally awesome if 8,000 jazzed-up Canadians were playing it at the same time.

Apparently, we want this record, and we want it bad, so if you're in the area and have at least some talent on the gee-tar, come take care of business. The event goes down at 7 p.m. on May 27, at General Motors Centre, Oshawa, ON. Find out more here.

Surely, Canada doesn't want to have to try this a third time, right?
