California Guitar Trio with Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto

CG3+2

BY Roman SokalPublished Feb 1, 2003

Although regularly a trio, the world-renowned CGT take the sound of acoustic guitar to the highest heights and expand into a quintet of rhythm that is beyond. For this release, they employ former label-mates Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson) and Tony Levin to add flavour to their delicate and intricate melodies, which stem from classical to rock arrangements, taking acoustic guitars to an otherworldly realm. As the end of the album approaches, complexity ensues, as bizarre jams occur, making modern high-tech top 40 rock seem infantile. The CGT are a force to be reckoned with, and they are the purveyors of what true music is: feel over technology.
