The first batch of artists performing at this year's Sled Island festival has just been announced, with some of the top-shelf acts heading out to Calgary including space-rockers Spiritualized, alt-country star Neko Case and reunited party rockers Rocket From the Crypt.
The event, which runs June 18 to 22 at various venues across Calgary, will be the eighth annual Sled Island and host over 250 artists. Among them will also be St. Vincent, Touché Amoré, Joel Plaskett Emergency, Rhye, Killer Mike, Bob Mould, Earthless and Chelsea Wolfe, among others. Fittingly, with punk rock and feminist icon Kathleen Hanna guest curating the fest, her Julie Ruin are also set to perform sometime during Sled Island.
More artist announcements and show specifics are expected to be unveiled leading up to the event, as will the comedy, film and art programming. Passes, meanwhile, have already gone up for sale.
Early bird rates have now expired, so the Festival Discovery pass, which offers entry to any show (subject to capacity) is currently going for at $199. The line-skipping, VIP-styled Festival Discovery Plus Pass is now priced at $349, while an all-ages pass costs $50.

Of course, the 2014 edition of Sled Island marks the first fest to take place since it was devastated by the Alberta floods last year.
