Calgary's Secret Broadcast Kick Off Cross-Canada Tour in Support of Exploding Spiders

Drawing sonic comparisons to the Doves, the Verve and early Radiohead, Calgary indie rockers Secret Broadcast are hitting the road this month in support of their self-released debut album, Exploding Spiders, which was released September 1.

Secret Broadcast guitarist/vocalist Matt Lightstone, bassist John De Jesus and drummer Bryan Craig are no strangers to the Canadian music scene, having bested 300 competitors in the "Oh Henry! What Feeds Your Hunger Contest" for a spot at V-Fest Calgary and a private party for judge Richard Branson and guests. Not to mention, dudes have opened for a plethora of A-list acts, including Metric, the Stills and Matthew Good.

In a nod to a quote from beat generation pioneer Jack Kerouac, the 12-track Exploding Spiders was recorded over two months in early 2009 at the Audities Foundation Studio and out of the band's basement, featuring the production expertise of Laurence Currie (Sloan, Wintersleep, Holy Fuck) and mastering of Noah Mintz (Broken Social Scene, the National).

Band front-man Lightstone says in a press release that the group "wanted to make a large-sounding album, but still wanted to produce an eclectic mix of songs," with the album boasting atmospheric synth sounds and even an ex-Abbey Road Mellotron.

The indie rock outfit were recently sitting at #71 on the Canadian singles charts for their track "Out of Control," but you can check them out this month on their cross-Canada tour when they set up shop to broadcast in your neighbourhood.
