Burial To Get His/Her/Their/Its DJ-Kicks

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Apr 22, 2008

The long-running DJ-Kicks series has announced the ever-mysterious and highly acclaimed dubstep producer, Burial, will be mixing its next instalment. The release will mark the first new work from the notoriously press-shy South London artist (who has somehow kept his/her/their true identity unknown) since last year’s Untrue, a record that blew up all over 2007’s year-end best-of lists.

According to label !K7 Records, who will be releasing Burial DJ-Kicks on CD and double vinyl June 23 overseas and July 8 in North America, "We hear whisperings from the studio that he may treat his dearest dubstep, techno and even R&B tracks with his unique production style before mixing them with exclusive material..."

Since 1995, DJ-Kicks has featured a wide range of electronic luminaries, such as Four Tet, Erlend Øye, Booka Shade and Hot Chip, and gradually morphed from clubby, dance-floor mixes to more at-home headphone experiences, which fits Burial’s dark, introspective aesthetic well. However, unlike any of these or the other DJ-Kicks graduates, !K7 says Burial will be fielding no questions about this release and, as per usual, will not be performing live in any sort of capacity.
