After her decades-long career as an acclaimed singer-songwriter and activist, Buffy Sainte-Marie can now add children's author to her list of accomplishments. Sainte-Marie has penned a picture book titled Hey Little Rockabye: A Lullaby for Pet Adoption — a story about a puppy and the girl who wants to adopt him.

The book arrives May 12 via Greystone Kids and features illustrations by Ben Hodson. The story is based on the lyrics of a new original song by Sainte-Marie, a track that will be released in tandem with the forthcoming visual piece.

According to a press release, Hey Little Rockabye "shares an inspiring message of love and support for some of society's most vulnerable" and "conveys an important message about finding love and acceptance."

Sainte-Marie elaborated in a statement: "No matter what kind of animal your little rockabye pet is, I hope my song will make you feel loving and cozy together and fill you both with special joy."

Her new song also arrives on May 12 and will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon and Deezer.

In addition to Hodson's illustrations, the book will also feature photos of Sainte-Marie's own rescue animals, including cats, dogs, goats and a horse.
