Bruce Springsteen Details Six-Disc <i>Darkness on the Edge of Town</i> Box Set

As previously reported, Bruce Springsteen's 1978 classic, Darkness on the Edge of Town, is the subject of a new documentary from Emmy Award winner Thom Zimmy. The film is called The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, and it will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Those of us who can't make it to that exclusive event don't have to worry, however, as the film will also be included in a deluxe six-disc reissue of the album coming out this fall.

The whole package is called The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story, and includes three CDs, three DVDs and an 80-page book including full colour replicas of Springsteen's studio notes, alternate lyrics and journals from the time of recording. Musically, the three CDs contain a remastered version of Darkness on the Edge of Town along with 21 previously unreleased tracks that Springsteen initially wanted to release between Born to Run and Darkness on the Edge of Town.

As for the video portion, the set includes a DVD of The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, a DVD of the album performed live and a bootleg DVD of a Houston concert shot in 1978.

The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story will be released on November 16 via Columbia. The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town will premier at TIFF on September 14, and will air on HBO on October 7.
