Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp Join Forces on "Wasted Days"

Can you even imagine anything more Americana than this?

Midlife crises are better together, right? John Mellencamp has recruited Bruce Springsteen for new single "Wasted Days," and it comes complete with a homespun, pensive music video.

It's the two elder statesmen's first time releasing a song together; but they're no strangers to collaborating with each other, having shared the stage at New York's Beacon Theatre in 2019.

The troubadours wax nostalgic on the track as they contemplate the passage of time and moments they've lost. "We watch our lives just slip away," they sing on the chorus over organic, rustic instrumentation that lends warmth to the ruminative folk tune. It's not the most optimistic, but who can blame them?

In the video, shots of the Heartland rockers (in a house, in the driveway, in front of a garage sporting an American flag, in a field of wheat — you know, the usual) are interspersed with those of young children to represent the circle of life or something.
