Brookside Mall

"Twenty Thirteen"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 31, 2018

Fredericton indie rockers Brookside Mall delivered their Preservation EP last year, and now they're back with some fresh material.

The band's latest single "Twenty Thirteen" may be brand new, but it hears the group pining for years past — a time when the Weakerthans were still together and making music.

"We need the Weakerthans' empathy now more than ever in this unabridged hellscape," the band tells Exclaim! "And, while pining for the past isn't terribly constructive, I too often find myself 'in the stick count for the song of knowing that [they're] gone.'"

As it stands, we'll have to get by with old memories and the allusion-heavy ode to the defunct Winnipeg group. Give "Twenty Thirteen" a listen down below.

The track will appear on the band's upcoming self-titled album, which arrives on June 29 via Front Porch Records.
