Bron

Great White North

BY Andrea AyottePublished Apr 13, 2010

Alberta native Bron (aka Bryan Wells) comes out with Great White North on Danksoul, a new Vancouver, BC-based label. Bron developed his passion for electronic music after hearing one of Danny Tenaglia's marathon sets back in 1999 and since then has become a recognized DJ alongside Edmonton friend and collaborator Dane "Gretzky" MacDonald. Together with Ryan Trann, Danksoul emerged as a means to promote themselves while also supplying an output for new western Canadian talent. The titular track is playful microhouse full of choppy, constructed, funky snippets and cheeky vocal loops that possibly comments on one's experience growing up in small-town Canada. Avant-garde French house producer Sylvain Garcia (aka Le K) offers an energetic, playful remix of "Great White North." "Splash Back" is a quirky, bass-driven track that slowly works up the funk. And closing number "Postcard From The Prairies" sets a new tone for this EP by delivering a Kruder & Dorfmeister-style downtempo track perfect for chilling out to.
