Published May 21, 2010When we reported that Canada's go-to indie music film director, Bruce McDonald, was working on a pseudo-concert film with Broken Social Scene, we had no idea the turnaround would be this fast. Less than a year later, the film is not only finished, but has undergone media scrutiny and is ready to hit the big screens for all to see.
As The Playlist points out, This Movie Is Broken will hit Canadian theatres come June 25. The film, which tells the story of fictional lovers Bruno and Caroline in their quest to score tickets to a BSS concert, was written by Canadian writer/filmmaker Don McKellar, and features oodles of fan-sourced footage of the band in concert.
Having already received positive reviews from SXSW crowds, This Movie is Broken will play as part of the film component of this year's NXNE, happening June 14 to 20.
In related news, Broken Social Scene just released their first studio album in five years, and we gave it the Exclaim! Mark of Excellence. You can read our review/interview for Forgiveness Rock Record here.
