British Sea Power Donate To Polar Bears

British Sea Power, who recently released their third album, Do You Like Rock Music? to critical acclaim, have agreed to lend their name and donate proceeds from a special line of merchandise to an arctic expedition team.

Headed by BSP fan and geologist Gareth Ellis, British Sea Power Team 2008 will be participating in the Polar Challenge, a 400-mile race to the magnetic north pole. The team is supposed to cross a migration route called Polar Bear Pass, which hungry bears use while in search of food in their rapidly warming climate. According to a posting by Ellis, the objective of the expedition is to raise money for Polar Bear International Research, the NSPCC and JDRF, all charities of his choosing. British Sea Power Team 2008 Polar swag in the form of T-shirts and patches can be purchased from the band's website.

About the cause, BSP singer/guitarist Yan said: "We’re happy to do what we can to for Gareth and his mission with the Polar Challenge race and the polar bears. Who wouldn’t want the big old bears to stick around? Best wishes to Gareth and his team. Here’s hoping they make it safely to the North Pole and establish a good working relationship with all the animals they meet on the way.”
