Brian Wilson Working on New Album Featuring Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, Zooey Deschanel

Brian Wilson's last couple of solo albums haven't given him much of a chance to exercise his compositional talent, since the legendary Beach Boy covered George and Ira Gershwin on 2010's Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin and recorded his own versions of Disney songs on 2011's In the Key of Disney. Now, Wilson is back to writing his own material, and the list of guests makes the project even more intriguing.

An update on the songwriter's website features an extract of an article from the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. It notes that guests for the next album may include Frank Ocean (who is "potentially" featured on "Special Love"), Lana Del Rey (on "Last Song"), She & Him's Zooey Deschanel (for a "space-age bossa nova" number called "On the Island") and Nashville Star country act Kacey Musgraves (on "Sharing a New Day").

These songs are said to be "in contention" for the new LP, meaning that nothing has been finalized and it's possible that plans may change. In any case, this project is well worth keeping an eye on.

Wilson's most recent album of original material was 2008's That Lucky Old Sun.
