U.S. indie imprint Brassland turns ten this month, and to celebrate, it's digging deep into its catalogue to offer up a month's worth of free downloads from acts like the National, Nico Muhly and more.
The label, co-run by Alec Hanley Bemis and the National's guitar-toting twins Aaron and Bryce Dessner, revealed plans to deliver downloads each week day this month, from previously available tunes to demo tracks and rarities.
"We're not certain of the exact date Brassland was born (that's how it goes with origin myths), but we know it was sometime in the fall of 2001 that Alec Hanley Bemis and the twins Bryce & Aaron Dessner put out the first pair of records by the National and Clogs," the company said in a statement. "Instead of popping open some champagne corks in private (well, we might do that too), we've decided to celebrate this anniversary with all of you!"
Up first is a melody of "Kapsburger" and "Five/Four" from Bryce's neo-classical indie troupe Clogs' 2006 set Lantern. Like all the anniversary offerings, you can download the tracks at the label's website, as well as its Facebook.
On Thursday (November 3), a demo version of the National's "High Beams," which previously appeared on the Music for Robots Vol. 1 compilation in 2005, will be released. But courtesy of Pitchfork, you can currently stream it below.
Not all of the tracks have been announced, but a loose schedule for each artist participating has been revealed. You can see that below, and at the bottom of the page, you can watch a trailer for the anniversary celebrations.
