Braindrill

Apocalyptic Feasting

When a death metal legend like Cannibal Corpse’s Alex Webster is quoted as saying that your band are raising the bar in overall extremity for death metal, you’d better damn well be heavy as hell. Fortunately, Webster’s Metal Blade label-mates Braindrill deliver on that praise with their debut album, Apocalyptic Feasting. The band, perhaps not surprisingly, sound similar to Cannibal Corpse, but Braindrill have vocals that are a little less guttural and the band also throw in some complex technical guitar parts that best align them with the sound of elusive tech-death ninjas Dim Mak. Another strong aspect to Apocalyptic Feasting is the insane drum work of Marco Pitruzzella. The BPM count is so high it’ll probably make you wonder if the drums are actually machine-operated (they’re not; you can confirm Pitruzzella’s skills on YouTube). The fact that this band are so solid and immensely skilled at such a young age (Marco is in his early 20s) makes one wonder if in a couple years we could see 15-year-old kids on stage playing brutal death metal. These guys were probably jamming to Morbid Angel at that age, thus making them the coolest kids ever. Regardless, Braindrill are most definitely a band to check out, as the future looks bright for this group of musicians skilled far beyond their years.
