Published Oct 29, 2014Bob Nanna's beloved Braid came back with a "Bang" this year via the release of No Coast, and now the emo vet will bring his the City on Film back into the limelight as well. La Vella, the project's first album since 2007, arrives through Topshelf Records on December 16.
A press release notes that City on Film's resuscitation was partially inspired when Nanna was laid off from a job. Putting time into a songwriting website he created called Downwrite, which "enables songwriters and songlovers to be mutually inspired, respected, and compensated," Nanna sourced story material from nine fans and reworked these into the 11 songs that appear on La Vella.
Lead-off track "You Wild Thing (An Illuminous Life)" is said to detail "a chance meeting and a bonding over the Pogues, Ted Leo, and gym shoes." You'll find the single down below via Brooklyn Vegan.
While initially a solo project, the current lineup of City on Film also includes bassist Kyle Geib and drummer Seth Engel, who both play with Nanna in Lifted Bells. The album, just Nanna's second City on Film full-length since starting up in 1999, was by produced him and Jeff Dean at Chicago's Million Yen studio.
