Following the 2015 release of Braids' Juno-winning Deep in the Iris, the Montreal trio have announced a companion EP is due later this year. Quite appropriately titled Companion, the mini-release arrives May 20 via Arbutus/Flemish Eye.
A press release explains that the four songs that appear on Companion were written during the same sessions as Deep in the Iris, but were complete last August "during a burst of creative energy." The 19-minute EP is further described as using the template of Deep in the Iris, while acting as " a breathtaking journey all of its own." It's said to tap into feelings of "joy, disaffection...[and] delicate introspection."
Below, you'll find the first taste of the collection via a video for its title track. Directed by Kevan Funk, the video finds vocalist Raphaelle Standell-Preston and her doppelganger singing the song in and outside of a remote desert home.
