BPI Announces Fund for Labels Affected in London Blaze; Finders Keepers Gets Jarvis Cocker, Zola Jesus for Benefit Series

Last week we learned about LabelLove, a campaign raising funds for the imprints affected by the massive warehouse fire in London that decimated thousands of CDs and records. The outpouring of support did not stop there, though. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has now announced another fund with goals to aid all the labels affected in the blaze.

As Billboard reports, the industry association hopes to get the small businesses back on track and will therefore be offering up £100,000 ($162,192) in aid.

"The BPI is founded on the principle that majors and indies should work together and that a vibrant independent sector benefits the recorded music business as a whole," BPI chief executive Geoff Taylor said in a statement. "For that reason, I am delighted that independent and major members of BPI are showing their solidarity by creating a growing fund to assist indie labels that experience financial difficulties as a result of destruction of stock in the Sony DADC warehouse."

BPI deputy chairman Mike Batt added, "We want indie labels to get back to normal business as quickly as possible, and we are joining our funding up with AIM's initiative to ensure that those labels affected can afford to replace damaged stock and can focus on creating great music."

As gracious as the fund is, the labels themselves are starting to pick up the pieces. UK label Finders Keepers has just started up a benefit series of compilations to promote its back catalogue, most of which was lost in the fire. A series of ten collections under the banner Supports Finders Keepers will be released as digital downloads and on limited CDs, with a number of artists pointing out their favourite tunes from Finders Keepers' vaults.

Jarvis Cocker has unveiled his picks in Volume One, while future editions will be selected by Zola Jesus, Super Furry Animal's Gruff Rhys, Zola Jesus, Prefuse 73 and more.

You can find out more about the series on the label website here.
