Boy Least Likely To The Law of the Playground

Boy Least Likely To The Law of the Playground
The Boy Least Likely To were never slaves to fashion, always wearing their very whimsical hearts on their sleeves. Even before indie pop was cool they were singing their cute pop songs and didn't really care who noticed or what they thought. Still, their debut album, which collected their early singles, was warmly received and three years later, not much has changed. The Law of the Playground is a more well rounded record, with less highs and lows. Or rather less lows because there is hardly a weak moment throughout, and much more variety, with wonderfully rich arrangements that prevent the band from seeming as one-dimensional as they might have at times in the past. The lyrics are still shamelessly twee, with many references to cute animals and other staples of the indie pop world, but with a healthy dose of paranoia and suspicion underlying most of the songs. It never comes across as being completely clichéd thanks to the fact that the songs are so utterly charming. Now more than ever, the Boy Least Likely To will melt the hardest of hearts. (+1)
